Sohn Seok-gu embarked on his acting journey in 2014 with a minor role in the film Scarlet Innocence. His talent caught the attention of viewers, and in 2017, he made a notable appearance in the Netflix sci-fi drama Sense8. Continuing his success, in 2018, he secured roles in two KBS2 dramas: Suits and Matrimonial Chaos. His outstanding performances in these dramas earned him a nomination for Best New Actor at the KBS Drama Awards. Additionally, his role in Matrimonial Chaos garnered him a nomination for Best New Actor for TV at the 55th Baeksang Arts Awards.
Sohn Seok-gu’s acting prowess extended to the big screen as well. His performance in the 2019 movie Hit-and-Run Squad led to a nomination for Best New Actor for Film at the 55th Baeksang Arts Awards. The same year, he joined the cast of the tvN drama Designated Survivor: 60 Days, a Korean adaptation of the American TV series Designated Survivor. This drama received accolades, including the Best Adaptation of an Existing Format citation at the 2019 Asian Academy Creative Awards.
Before pursuing his acting career, Sohn Seok-gu served in the Republic of Korea Army’s Zaytun Division during his mandatory military service. The division was deployed to Iraq and was involved in peacekeeping and reconstruction-related tasks during the Iraq War.
